In the craziness that occurred after Magnus’s arrival, Isabelle wasn’t paying much attention to anything but Alec. So she was surprised when she realized Lydia was nowhere in sight. Excusing herself, she headed towards Lydia’s room.
After a long moment, Lydia opened the door, still in her gown. “I came to check on you” Isabelle said.
“I’m fine” Lydia said. Isabelle knew she must be feeling embarrassed, no matter how graciously she’d taken Alec leaving her at the altar. “Although I could use some help getting this dress off.”
“Of course” said Isabelle. She unzipped the gown, which fell to the floor. Lydia stepped out of it and Isabelle noticed how gorgeous she looked in her lingerie. Isabelle tried not to stare, but it was difficult. “It’s okay to not be okay.” While Isabelle was happy to see Alec admit his feelings for Magnus, she felt sorry for Lydia.
Lydia grabbed different clothes and began to dress. “I’m surprised you aren’t here to gloat. We both know you didn’t want me to marry Alec.”
“But I didn’t want to see you get hurt.” She pushed a strand of hair away from Lydia’s face. Then, she kissed her.
After a moment, Lydia returned the kiss. After a moment, Isabelle pulled away. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.”
“Really? Because I was just thinking I’d like to do it again” Lydia said. Then she kissed Isabelle again. Isabelle realized this failed wedding might turn out to be good for everyone involved.
