Hope couldn’t pinpoint when she first realized she had feelings for Josie. Maybe it was when they studied for their exams together. Or maybe it was when Josie comforted Hope after the loss of her parents.

Whatever the case, this resulted in a lot of restless nights for Hope. Finally, after waking up from yet another dream where she was kissing Josie, Hope decided she would tell Josie about her feelings.

Which is why Hope was looking for Josie that morning. She smiled when she spotted Josie coming into the dining room.

But the smile quickly faltered on her lips as she noticed Josie was holding hands with Penelope. And it disappeared altogether when Penelope pressed a quick kiss to Josie’s lips before going off to grab her breakfast.

Josie smiled, glancing around the dining room as she did so. She waved when she saw Hope and approached the redhead. “Good morning” she said, sliding into the seat opposite Hope.

It took Hope a moment to process what the brunette was saying. Then she said “Good morning.” She glanced across the room to where Penelope was. “I take it you got back together with Penelope?” she asked.

If Hope’s voice revealed her jealousy, Josie didn’t seem to pick up on it. She nodded and said “We got back together last night. I’m so happy.”

Hope smiled again, but this time it was forced. “I’m happy for you,” she told her friend. It was a lie. Inside, Hope’s heart was breaking.
