Shauna wasn’t sure how she had ended up the designated driver again. That happened a lot when she went to parties with Jackie. But then, Shauna had always had difficulty saying no to Jackie.

Now they were at Shauna’s house, where Jackie would spend the night sleeping off the alcohol so that her parents didn’t become even more overprotective. Shauna’s parents didn’t seem to worry about that sort of thing, probably because they assumed Shauna’s good grades meant she made good choices (if they only knew).

“Your boobs looked great in that dress tonight” Jackie said after changing into her pajamas.

When Jackie was slightly drunk like this, it always caused her to give Shauna compliments that really shouldn’t have made Shauna as happy as they did. But she loved hearing Jackie say nice things about her. More than she really should, actually. “Thanks” she said, sliding into her bed beside Jackie.

Jackie surprised Shauna by running a hand through Shauna’s hair. Shauna felt her heart flutter, wondering if she was misreading the situation

But then Jackie was pressing her lips to Shauna’s, and Shauna thought her head might explode. Both from shock and from happiness.

When the kiss ended, Shauna decided to be brave. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted you to do that for.”

Jackie laughed, then said “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that.”

Shauna found herself hoping Jackie would remember this in the morning. Because otherwise her heart might break.
