Jessica had lived a lot since becoming a vampire. And she’d seen a lot, too. But everything she’d seen and experienced never compared to seeing her girlfriend cry. Every time Adilyn was reduced to tears, it made Jessica want to fight the world.
She’d woken up and climbed out of her coffin to the sound of Adilyn sobbing. Following the noise to the living room, she wrapped her arms around Adilyn. “What happened?” she asked, pressing a kiss to Adilyn’s forehead.
Adilyn said “I was watching a soap opera and they killed off my favorite character.”
Jessica stared in disbelief. Then, not wanting to belittle her girlfriend, she said “That’s terrible. But you know they’ll be back eventually.” She knew that much from watching these shows with Adilyn.
“You think so?” Adilyn asked. Her sobs slowed, but tears still streamed down her face.
Jessica chuckled. Then, unable to control herself, she licked a tear from Adilyn’s face. It wasn’t like blood, but the salty droplet still tasted like Adilyn, which meant it was good.
Adilyn laughed, her crying stopping completely now. “You know how weird that is, right?” It wasn’t the first time Jessica had licked Adilyn’s tears. But Jessica knew from past experience that Adilyn didn’t really mind. And it was usually a good way to get the other woman to stop thinking about whatever it was that had her upset.
“Let’s watch something funny instead” Jessica said, taking the remote from Adilyn and settling back on the couch.
