Once Carlisle tended to Bella’s injuries, she took a shower and changed into some of her girlfriend’s clothes, tossing her own bloody ones into a bag to take home. Now she was sitting on the couch in Rosalie’s bedroom.

Rosalie was staring out the window, clearly deep in thought. “What are you thinking about?” Bella asked, sometimes wishing she had Edward’s ability to read minds.

Rosalie turned to face Bella. “I’m thinking about how dangerous this is for you. But how I’m too selfish to give you up.” The blonde was torn between her love for Bella and wanting to keep Bella safe.

“Well, if you would just make me a vampire-” Bella began, before being cut off.

“No!” It was an argument they’d had many times before, both being stubborn.

“Just think about it. My skin would be hard and strong, not soft and easy to break. And my blood wouldn’t be tempting.”

Rose shook her head, then moved to stand besides Bella. Taking the brunette’s hand into both of her own, she rubbed the hand along her cheek. “I love you like this. I don’t care if you think you’re weak.” The feel of Bella’s warm, human body was enough to make Rosalie feel alive again after decades of cutting herself off from most of humanity. “And I won’t rob you of your chance to live a full life.”

Bella knew there was no way Rosalie would give in tonight. But Bella wasn’t ready to give up either.
