Stacey sneezed, not for the first time since she’d been in Claudia’s room. The blonde had offered to help Claudia clean up, since Claudia’s parents had been complaining about Claudia having friends over for club meetings when her bedroom was a mess.
“Sorry about the dust” Claudia said. “I guess I should have cleaned this place sooner.” She preferred to think of her room as being a place of controlled chaos, but if they were kicking up enough dust to make Stacey sneeze, perhaps it was more than just disorganized.
“It’s okay” said Stacey, her voice cracking. The truth was she’d woken up with a sore throat and a headache. Now she was feeling congested and the room was spinning slightly. She sat down on Claudia’s bed quickly, hoping it would help her feel less dizzy.
Dropping the clothes she’d been picking up, Claudia hurried to Stacey’s side. “Are you all right?” she asked, hoping it wasn’t Stacey’s blood sugar causing her problems.
Stacey shook her head, which just increased the dizziness. Once the room stopped spinning as much, she said “I think I’m getting a cold.”
Claudia’s eyes widened. “Well, why did you come over to help me clean? You should be in bed.” Her voice took on an unusual note of sternness.
Claudia held her hand out to Stacey. “Come on. Let’s go to your house where you’ll be more comfortable.” Claudia’s room could wait. She intended to spend the rest of the day taking care of Stacey.
