You step into the graveyard, the first time you’ve been back here since her death. Her second death, that is. It’s been months, but you’ve been putting it off. Losing her the first time was painful. Losing her the second, after everything she did to you following both your resurrections, just about killed you all over again.

You place magnolias outside her crypt, knowing they were her favorite flower. It seems appropriate, given how often she wore white. You kiss the fingers on your right hand, then press your hand to the crypt. “I love you, Monique.” Present tense. Forever.
